Players Can't Join

Fast fixes for the most common join failures, by symptom.

1

"Game not found" (J201)

Cause: The session code on their phone doesn't match a live session.

Fix: Check the code on the audience screen. Make sure they're entering the 6-character game code, not the join URL. Codes are case-insensitive but must be exact.

If you've ended and started a new game, players who joined the old one need to re-scan the new QR code.

2

"Incorrect PIN" (J101 / S301)

Cause: You set a PIN on the session and the player typed it wrong.

Fix: Read out the 4-digit PIN from your host page. Or remove the PIN from the session settings if you don't need it.

3

"No internet" (J501) or join page never loads

Cause: The player's phone has no signal or is blocked from the site.

Fix:

- Ask them to switch to mobile data instead of the venue Wi-Fi (most common fix)
- Or, ask them to disconnect and reconnect to the venue Wi-Fi
- Test the join URL on your own phone via mobile data to confirm the site is reachable

If many players hit this, your venue's Wi-Fi may be blocking outbound traffic. See the Wi-Fi troubleshooting guide.

4

QR code won't scan

Cause: Light reflection on the screen, dirty camera lens, or QR too small.

Fix:

- Tap the QR overlay button to enlarge it on the audience screen
- Move the player closer to the screen
- Reduce reflection (close blinds, change projector angle)
- Ask them to type the join URL manually instead: letsgogames.co.uk/join with the code

5

"Game full" (J301 / S305) or "Game locked" (S304)

Cause: You turned on a join control for this session. Locked means you tapped "Locked" so no new players can join. Full means the game hit the Max players limit you set.

Fix: On your host page, open Venue Setup → Who can join. Set it back to Open to let new players in, or raise the Max players number (leave it blank for no limit). Players who are already in are never removed when you lock or hit the limit, so this only affects new joiners.

These controls are off by default - a normal pub night needs neither. They are there for schools and private events that need to keep non-participants out.

6

"Join timeout" (J401) or "Rate limited" (J601)

Cause: Server slow to respond, or too many join attempts in a short time.

Fix: Wait 60 seconds, then ask the player to refresh and try again. If timeouts keep happening across players, check our status page.

Always-Ask Checklist

  • Are they on the same Wi-Fi as the host? (Not strictly required, but helps.)
  • Did they type the code or scan the QR? Try the other method.
  • Have them refresh the page if it's stuck loading.
  • Check their browser - we recommend Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge.
  • Check the error code (in parentheses at the end of any error message) and search this help centre for it
  • Still stuck? Email info@letsautomate.info with the error code, your session code, and roughly how many players are affected.
